courage

A tweet from someone I follow stated that they are working on a program called  ‘The Character of Success’ and the first module is about the ‘courage to live your dream’.  He wanted to know if this resonated with anyone.  Naturally I responded that it has been how I have lived my LIFE.

Voice Found is the manifestation of a dream.  A dream to help heal individuals and communities  from the devastating effects of childhood sexual abuse.  It takes an amazing amount of courage to share the dream and to see it become reality.  People don’t want to talk about children being sexually abused.  They don’t want to face the fact that it is rarely a stranger that is the perpetrator but rather a family member or trusted friend.  It takes courage to dive into the unknown and create a not for profit.  A whole lot of people want to try and tell you a million reasons why you can’t.  (HA!- just watch us!) It takes courage to face the sometimes negative thoughts that come from others.  It takes courage to keep going when you don’t have large reserves of money to do all the things you know you NEED to do.  It takes courage to ASK for help to make the dream come true.  It takes courage to continue your own healing journey in a public forum.

We are all of us courageous for having moved from victim to survivor.

Courage.  Ya…I got me some of that!

speak to your inner child

Try spending time with your inner child.  Help him/her to grow.  Let them know you are there.  One way I do that is by writing.  I am often aware of when I am reacting from my ‘5 year old’ self.  That child has taught me a lot and will continue to do so.  Something I wrote in October of 2007 after a particularly upsetting event.  You will see that my words have simply fallen freely to the page – no editing – no proper prose.  You might want to try it sometime.  I have found it helps me and perhaps it will help you too.

October 6, 2007 – Talking to my inner child

Child – know that you are good
Child – know that you are whole
Child – know that I will protect you

I know you were not to blame.  Hush my darling girl…..be still.  You are loved.  Wrap your arms around yourself and feel me holding you.  I honour you.  I know you have been hurt so much and by so many.  You are safe now.  I will hold your hand and help you to grow.  Yes….you must grow up.  Yes….it can be scary at times but I am here.  We will walk together.

My sweet girl, maintain your sense of awe and wonder in life.  For so long you have lived in fear.  For so long you have had to stand guard.  You are safe now.  It is time to release the fear.  It is time to let go of the control you needed and allow yourself to be.  Laugh with complete abandon.  Let down your guard.  Be love.  Feel love.  Let it come.

My dear girl ~ You shine

Claim your place in the world.

My darling girl ~ You belong

A New Year- An expanded vision

When I first started dreaming about ‘Voice Found’ it was as a result of a very real, very personal experience.   You can read about it under the tab entitled ‘My Dream’.  As my journey has continued this vision has expanded.   I began working from what I KNEW and from where I felt comfortable.  It was good to do so.  I needed the time to explore, research and simply let the dream happen.  New colours, new textures, new experiences and meeting new people have all helped to make the dream a reality and the vision to crystalize.   Over the course of 2009 I met with someone who shared my dream and together we have continued to create and work towards something that will truly make a difference in the lives of CSA survivors and in turn,  our communities.  The last month of 2009 has seen us grow to a 4 member team.  We have  expanded our vision.

Voice Found is a charitable organization (application pending) with a mission to help heal individuals and communities from childhood sexual abuse.  To achieve this,  we have developed an approach that includes prevention, awareness, healing, research and education.

As a starting point, Voice Found has adopted the Stewards of Children education program designed by Darkness to Light. (http://www.darkness2light.org/) The program educates adults in how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse  and motivates them to action . It is our on-going vision to develop additional programs with Canadian content  to better serve  our  communities.

There is more, much more and we will share the news with you on our new website.  We are planning to have it ready to launch by mid February.

Thank you all so much for your ongoing support.  A single fleeting thought became a dream.  I tucked the dream away for a while thinking it was not within my reach.  I grew.  I continued healing.  I allowed the dream to visit again…and again…and again.  Now that dream is really coming true.  I have found my voice.
